United Youth Media (formerly The Reporters' Academy - Australia) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing students with skills in media production and communications. UYM aims to make a positive difference in the lives of young people through education, employment and personal development.
16 year old Katie Smith of UYM was chosen to tour with the IOE Italy group because of her media skills, love of education and proven track record over 2 years. This partnership between the organisations not only has benefits for the touring party and IOE, but also for Katie. She gets to use her media skills but also develop her interpersonal skills as she helps the team navigate its way through 3 weeks of jam packed days of activities in Italy. This applied learning opportunity is what 21st century education should look like. A product-based approach which results in a happy partnership with benefits for all individuals and organisations involved. |
